Snow!

Having grown up in sunny San Jose, CA, I remember the first time I saw snow. I thought it was a wonderful thing. I would see it up in the mountains every couple of years, but it was so far away. I never actually got to feel it. Then, on a trip to Utah, we had to go through southern Nevada to avoid a big snowstorm across the Sierra Mountains. I remember seeing patches of snow on the side of the road and we got to go out and play in it. There wasn't much there, but it was cold, and white, and I got to throw a snowball for the first time. Boy, was I excited.

When I was 16 and first got my Drivers License, it snowed in the Santa Clara Valley. I found out just how easy it was to get stuck in the snow. I had skipped early morning seminary and went with a few of my friends to drive around in the snow. We thought we were so cool. Until, we got stuck, and I had to call my father to come and help me get out of the snow. I was embarrassed, but he was OK with it, and he understood the fascination with the first snow.

Since then, I've had a lot more experience with snow. I like the first couple of snowstorms of the season, and then I'm really tired of it. Last night I went to sleep and there was no snow on the ground. This morning, I wake up and there's 8 - 10 inches of the stuff on the ground. I had to get up and shovel it all out of the driveway. Just as I'm ready to leave and the driveway is clear, the snowplow comes along and deposits a load of snow right at the end of the driveway making it nearly impossible to get out, unless you just gun it and go over it real fast.

I can't wait til spring.

My First Blog

So, this is my first blog. I've been reading my daughter's blog for quite a while now. It's a great way for me to keep up with what she's been doing at college. I wanted to start a blog so that she can read stories from my life and it's a great way to force me to actually put it all down on paper. I don't expect too many people to actually read this blog, but what the heck. It's just for me and a few select people anyway. If you do start reading this, check back every couple of days for an update.
